Orellana Osvaldo
was born and raised in Rancagua, Chile and started carving faces in the top of
broomsticks at the age of six. The influence of the American western movies and
time spent on his uncle’s ranch in the Andes developed his love of horses and
the outdoors. He continued to carve and paint while he
studied architecture at Valpariso Catholic University. After traveling around
the world and seven years in Mexico pursuing his art of wood sculpture, he immigrated
to the United States. While working in Hollywood in the
building where KIIS-FM is located, Rick Dees saw his art work and invited him
on his show. This led to an association with the California Carvers Guild, where
he won “Best of the Best” three years in a row at the final yearly competition
in Cambria. He has exhibited at various shows in California and continues to complete
sculptures on commission while finishing his collection for exhibit. Art
lovers from several US States, Mexico, Chile, and Canada have collected his wood
sculptures. Current works created by the artist show on
expanded repertoire that include adult size rocking horses, a rocking motorcycle,
crucifixes, lighthouses, a variety of animal themes, boxes, tables and mirrors
frames. Michael Orellana Osvaldo’s
son Michael, was born in Los Angeles and raised in Claremont, California. He started
to show his artistic skills in shop classes in middle school. His father was very
impressed when he brought home a clay mama pig milking her babies. He continued
practicing with clay, making futuristic masks, until he started showing interest
in wood carving. Little by little he started to help his father on major wood
sculptures. They consider themselves a perfect team. |
